O', how the wind had cut my fears in two!
And when I thought I knew the thing to do,
The words came trembling through and through.
O', how the horror had braced me so!
And when I thought the flow had to go
This way and that, I wanted him to know.
O', how the silence had shut me down!
And when the crown had fallen to the ground,
I found myself within that humble sound.
O', how the sound of misery cried!
And when the lies had soon implied
That I was wrong, my faith had died.
